Today I’m sharing a finished make from my Mum who is a very talented embroiderer. This is a kit that she bought from Lorna Bateman called the ‘English Country Garden Needlecase’ which is still available here.
This is a kit for someone with experience doing embroidery. A basic pattern to use as the outline is screenprinted onto the provided linen for the embroiderer to then add to using their preference of stitches. Everything needed to complete the design is included in the kit (including enough thread to make the accompanying scissor keep).
The finished needlecase measures just over 6.5″ long x 4.5″ high (16.5cm x 11.5cm). The inside is finished with three sheets of felt which were stitched down using a sewing machine. The case closes with a small metal popper. On the inside of the top piece she included three small pockets created by folding over, and sewing down, the excess linen. These create handy storage for packets of needles etc.
If you are interested in learning to embroider then keep an eye on our website as we will soon be announcing dates for a Crewel Embroidery beginners class.
