I think I may have gone a little overboard with the recent pattern sales! Anyway, I thought I’d share some of my sewing plans with you although, as always, these might change at a moments notice when something new and shiny catches my eye 🙂 All the patterns are available in the shop.
I took some quick pics today (excuse the phone quality)…so in no particular order:
McCalls 7411 // Pink Stretch Crepe
I’m going to make view B with the curved hem to start with, and if I like it, then I’d like to try view E with the double scalloped hem as well. This crepe is soft and lightweight and has a little bit of stretch in it which should make it really comfy to wear. It is also available in a lovely petrol green.
Butterick 6333 // Pale Blue Chambray
I always have a bit of bother with fitted bodices and sleeves as I have a broad back, so I’m planning to make view A which is sleeveless and has the fuller pleated skirt. This chambray is new and is mid-weight which should work well for this pattern – it is look. It is also available in a darker blue.
McCalls 7542 // Stripe Cotton Seersucker – Green
Statement sleeves are a big trend this year. McCalls in particular have really picked up on it and they have lots of interesting patterns in their new season looks. Since this seersucker has a bit of body I’ll probably make view C. What I love about this pattern is that it is available with separate cup sizes so I won’t need to do a bust adjustment; however, I will have to make a toile just to check the fit through the back and make sure I can raise my arms. I’ve got the stripe available in a pale blue, navy blue, and a pale blue with little embroidered anchors – so sweet!
Vogue 9002 // Summer Bouquet Viscose (rayon)
A raglan sleeve is a really great option if you find the idea of setting in sleeves a bit daunting. To keep the floaty nature of the top I’ve picked some of this gorgous large scale print viscose & am planning on view C (with a straight hem). I did swither about making this in one of the luxury crepes so that might be a future project! Remember if you are working with viscose/rayon to pre-wash it as it is nearly always shrinks the first time you launder it.
McCalls 7547 // Denim
This one has been planned for a while and then McCalls announced a sew-along for it. Dungarees and dungaree dresses / pinafores have been another big trend this winter and look set to stay for the summer. I wanted to make a dress so I’m starting with view C which is the dungaree shorts and I’m going to hack the shorts into a shirt. There is a useful tutorial here from Pauline Alice. The denim is available in the shop (but not online yet).
McCalls 7543 // Floral Lawn
This floral lawn is a remnant from the shop but I really loved the colours and it is lightweight enough to handle the gathers around the neckline and the sleeves. This one I’ve already cut out and I’m going with view B as I really love the ties on the sleeves. I’ve added a couple of inches to the length since it looks a little short and it meant I used up all the fabric I had.
So I’ve shown you mine…now what’s on your sewing list?
